Karl Gilligan is the founder and Education Director of KG Elite Performance. Over the last four years Karl has developed and expanded KG Elite Performance's Strength & Conditioning courses, which has resulted in them becoming one of the most internationally recognized qualifications in strength and conditioning world wide.
Karl has extensive experience working in elite sport having worked with the Ireland U-19 Rugby Team, Leinster Rugby, Olympic athletes, Professional Golfers, Professional Boxers, County Football teams and Eircom Premier League teams. He qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science and an MSc in Strength & Conditioning from St. Mary's University College, Strawberry Hill, England. His research interests include Movement Screens as part of athlete pre-participation screens, post-activation potentiation (PAP) and speed biomechanics. He was the first formally accredited member of the Irish Institute of Sport (IIS) in strength and conditioning, and is also a professional member with the NSCA (CSCS).
Karl was a keen sportsman during his playing days having represented his province Connacht in Rugby at Schools and U-21 levels as well as London Irish U-19 & Development teams. He played numerous years of club Rugby in the AIL with St. Mary's College, Blackrock College, DLSP RFC and UL/Bohemians RFC as well as in Australia with University of Queensland (UQ). Karl has also represented his County Sligo at U-16, Minor and U-21 levels in GAA.
